Customer support software, measured instead of described.
Every helpdesk, live chat and knowledge base tool we cover gets the same ten-step test in a real support inbox. We time the setup, price it at the headcount you actually have, try to cancel it, and publish the numbers — including the ones vendors would rather we left out.
Why this site exists
Three questions the category answers badly.
Nobody publishes the real price
Support software is sold per agent, with add-ons, annual-only discounts and AI billed separately. The sticker price is almost never the bill. We rebuild the real cost at 5, 10, 20 and 50 agents.
Nobody measures setup
Reviews describe features. They never tell you how long it took to get a first ticket into the queue. We start a stopwatch at the signup button and report what happened.
Nobody tests the exit
Cancelling and exporting your ticket history is the part vendors design to be awkward. We run that test on every tool, because it is the one you will care about in year two.
Categories we cover
Customer support technology only. We do not review CRMs, marketing suites or project tools.
Helpdesk & ticketing
Shared inboxes, ticket queues, SLAs and agent workflows. What you buy when email stops coping.

How we pay for this
First Response Lab earns affiliate commission when a reader buys software through some of our links. That is the entire business model, and it creates an obvious conflict of interest. Here is how we contain it.
- Rankings come from the published scoring weights, never from commission. The weights are on the how we test page.
- Every page names which vendors on it pay us and which do not. Intercom, for example, has no affiliate programme at all — we still cover it.
- No vendor sees an article before it is published. No vendor can buy placement, a badge or a score.
- We publish findings that cost us money, including about the vendors that pay us most.
